The fury of the Miami punk scene was alive and well on Saturday night! I felt like I was at home in "the new Churchills." I'm being told, quite seriously, that nothing is going to change from some of the promoters. They're people who I trust and adore, so I'm going to believe them. Speaking of those promoters, it was Los' birthday. It was amazing, and I hadn't had fun like that in a really long time. I mean, Raf came to Miami! 'Nuff said! Getting to see The Crumbs is always a treat. I love them, and I love that Jose played with them again. Watching Jose and Raf play guitar together is always a great experience.
Not only do I have most of the albums in that picture, but I'm also thanked on a few of them! You see, I used to take A LOT of pictures and video and have been credited on New Times often by the oh-so-amazing journalist Abel Folgar, who did this piece. I love my scene, and the fact that everyone is still a family after so long. From what I've been told, Fabio, Nayra, and Los are still holding down the fort at Churchill's, so nothing has changed too much...so far. Except the cups, the cups changed. They're smaller. Also, there was a cop standing outside of the bar the whole night, which is annoying to the regular crowd, because punk and disorderly is a way of life outside of our beloved bar. I'm sure the people who come from Ft. Lauderdale (and other cities that are out of town), who aren't quite accustomed to our special brand of Miami Ghetto, are happy about it. I mean, there are a lot of murders and theft in the area, and not everyone is as street smart as we are. I've seen people robbed at gunpoint, and most people have a "that time my car got broken into" story. Like I said, I get it. It's probably a good thing, but none of us really like change.
